Inequality and heterogeneity in health-related quality of life: findings based on a large sample of cross-sectional EQ-5D-5L data from the Swedish general population

Fitsum Sebsibe Teni et al.

Summary: This study investigated inequality and heterogeneity in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Sweden, providing EQ-5D-5L population reference data. Results showed a socioeconomic gradient in HRQoL, with the strongest association between diseases/conditions and EQ VAS scores seen for depression and mental health problems. Adjusting for health-related behaviors and conditions slightly reduced, but did not eliminate, socioeconomic inequalities in HRQoL.

Health-related quality of life of refugees: a systematic review of studies using the WHOQOL-Bref instrument in general and clinical refugee populations in the community setting

Juliette Gagliardi et al.

Summary: Individuals in the clinical refugee group have a lower quality of life compared to the general population of refugees. Different patterns can be outlined for each domain of HRQOL between the two groups: higher scores for the Physical and lower for the Environment domain in the general population, and higher scores for the Environment and lower for the Psychological domain in the clinical population. These differences are likely due to higher rates of mental distress and greater exposure to somatization, stigmatization, and barriers to accessing healthcare services in the hosting country.

Time-varying associations of pre-migration and post-migration stressors in refugees' mental health during resettlement: a longitudinal study in Australia

Shuxian Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the time-varying association of pre-migration and post-migration stressors with mental health among refugees. The findings suggest that socioeconomic stressors, loneliness, and difficulties in adjustment to life in Australia have significant impacts on mental health for both genders. Gender-specific and time-sensitive services are recommended to improve refugees' mental health, with a focus on improving economic conditions and reducing loneliness during resettlement.
