Rural household food waste characteristics and driving factors in China

Yunyun Li et al.

Summary: This study focused on food waste generation in rural households in China, revealing that the average amount of food waste per meal is relatively low compared to high-income countries and urban restaurants. The driving factors of food waste generation in Chinese rural households include village type, household size, household income, household age structure, among others. Increased availability of information on food waste reduction and food storage conditions has a relatively small but noteworthy impact.

Coupling Analysis of Ecosystem Services Value and Economic Development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt: A Case Study in Hunan Province, China

Wanxu Chen et al.

Summary: Healthy ecosystems are crucial for the sustainable survival and development of human society, but ecological deterioration caused by socioeconomic activities can put pressure on ecosystems. This study focused on spatial interaction between ecosystem services value (ESV) and economic development in Hunan Province from 2000 to 2018. The analysis revealed trends in ESV and its relationship with economic development, providing insights for coordinated regional economic development and ecosystem conservation.

Landscape Dynamics Improved Recreation Service of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, China

Dengyue Zhao et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the spatio-temporal variations of recreation service in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area using the InVEST model, showing significant increases in recreation service with spatial heterogeneity. The results indicated that non-vegetation landscapes have higher recreation service than vegetation landscapes, suggesting that human landscapes are more attractive to tourists.

Tropical Coastal Land-Use and Land Cover Changes Impact on Ecosystem Service Value during Rapid Urbanization of Benin, West Africa

Damien Sinonmatohou Tiando et al.

Summary: Coastal areas in West Africa, including Benin, have experienced intensified socio-economic activities driven by rapid urbanization in recent decades, leading to changes in land use and cover that threaten ecosystem sustainability. The study found that urbanizing coastal areas saw significant changes in land use types, resulting in a decrease in total ecosystem services value and an increase in land use intensity over the past 10 years. Provisioning services were the primary contributor to ESV, with uncontrolled changes in forest and waterbody land use identified as the main cause of total ESV loss.

The Adjustment of China's Grain Planting Structure Reduced the Consumption of Cropland and Water Resources

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: Driven by technological progress and market demand, the optimization and adjustment of grain planting structure have played a crucial role in increasing grain output. The results show that China's grain output has steadily increased, with significant changes in planting structure, especially the shift to corn as the main crop. Nationally, the adjustment of grain planting structure has led to cumulative savings in cropland and water resources consumption, with better effects in the northern regions compared to the southern regions.

Land Use Scenario Simulation and Ecosystem Service Management for Different Regional Development Models of the Beibu Gulf Area, China

Dengyue Zhao et al.

Summary: Land use change is an important factor affecting ecosystems, and simulating future land use changes under different scenarios can test the rationality of such changes. The study found significant spatial heterogeneity in land use changes in the Beibu Gulf area, and the ecotourism development scenario was considered a more reasonable model for development.

An extended time series (2000-2018) of global NPP-VIIRS-like nighttime light data from a cross-sensor calibration

Zuoqi Chen et al.

Summary: This study established an extended time series of NPP-VIIRS-like nighttime light data for the period 2000-2018 through a unique sensor calibration method, providing a valuable tool for analyzing long-term urbanization processes with good spatial patterns and temporal consistency. The resulting product showed high accuracy and consistency compared to existing datasets, demonstrating its potential for monitoring demographic and socioeconomic activities over an extended period of time.
