Mitochondrial genomes of the human pathogens Coccidioides immitis and Coccidioides posadasii

Summary: The study described the assembly and annotation of mitochondrial reference genomes for two representative strains of C. posadasii and C. immitis, as well as assessed population variation among 77 selected genomes. It was found that both Coccidioides species are characterized by a large number of group I and II introns in their mitochondria, containing twice the number of elements compared to closely related Onygenales.
