Associations between Facets and Aspects of Big Five Personality and Affective Disorders:A Systematic Review and Best Evidence Synthesis

K. A. Lyon et al.

Summary: Most facets of neuroticism are positively associated with affective disorders, while positive emotion in extroversion and competence and self-discipline in conscientiousness are negatively associated. The study also found specific personality traits such as trust and actions have different impacts on anxiety disorders. At the aspect level, withdrawal in neuroticism is positively associated with MDD, while industriousness in conscientiousness is negatively associated. Future research is needed to investigate mediating pathways between personality facets and affective disorders.
