Social cognition and social functioning in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's dementia

Roy P. C. Kessels et al.

Summary: The aim of the study was to investigate social cognition and social functioning in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) and Alzheimer's dementia (AD). The results showed that aMCI patients had difficulties in recognizing negative emotions such as anger, disgust, and fear, while AD patients had difficulties in recognizing anger, disgust, and surprise. Both aMCI and AD patients were impaired in mentalizing, but only AD patients showed impairments in everyday social functioning.
