Estimation of the feeding record of pregnant Antarctic minke whales (Balaenoptera bonaerensis) using carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis of baleen plates

Summary: Antarctic minke whales are migratory capital breeders that mainly feed on Antarctic krill in the Southern Ocean during summer, with unknown prey outside of Antarctica. Stable isotope analysis of baleen plates revealed that pregnant Antarctic minke whales predominantly consumed Antarctic krill at lower latitudes, indicating that they did not change their diet significantly outside of the Antarctic.
