Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated children's vulnerability to violence, yet efforts to strengthen violence prevention and response services have been lacking. The current crisis presents an opportunity to enhance existing child protection systems, with a focus on multisectoral coordination and prioritizing primary prevention of violence. Continued efforts are needed to improve data and evidence-based strategies for violence prevention and response in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Global prevalence and burden of depressive and anxiety disorders in 204 countries and territories in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the prevalence and burden of major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders globally in 2020. The findings showed that the pandemic led to increased prevalence of major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders, with females and younger age groups being more affected. The pandemic has created an increased urgency to strengthen mental health systems in most countries and mitigation strategies are needed to address the burden of these mental disorders.

Summary: The maternal and child health care and nutrition services in districts targeted by the Growth through Nutrition Activity in Ethiopia experienced decline during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, but saw a recovery with the establishment of coordinated efforts and standard guidance. Various mitigation interventions implemented by health workers, institutions, government organizations, and NGOs played a significant role in the recovery of most services.
