Patient perspectives of pharmacists prescribing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis: A survey of patients receiving antiretroviral therapy

Susan Lutz et al.

Summary: The study evaluated patient perspectives on pharmacist Prophylaxis PrEP. Most patients believed that pharmacists had knowledge of medications, but their knowledge of HIV drugs was lower. While most patients expressed willingness to seek PrEP information from pharmacists, some patients had concerns about the training level of pharmacists in HIV, emphasizing the need for increased education to enhance their ability to prescribe PrEP.

Support and perceived barriers to implementing pre-exposure prophylaxis screening and dispensing in pharmacies: Examining concordance between pharmacy technicians and pharmacists

Roderick Hopkins et al.

Summary: Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have shown strong willingness and support for PrEP screening and dispensing in pharmacies. Both groups expressed concerns about the time and resources needed, while technicians also raised privacy concerns for patients, the need for community support and awareness of pharmacy-based PrEP screening. Pharmacists reported fewer barriers but emphasized the importance of training pharmacy staff for successful PrEP implementation.

Experienced barriers to adherence to pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention among MSM: a systematic review and meta-ethnography of qualitative studies

Alberto Edeza et al.

Summary: It was found that structural-level interventions, such as telehealth and pharmacist-prescribed approaches to PrEP distribution, may help circumvent barriers to uptake and adherence for some MSM, but may not be sufficient for already underserved communities, such as MSM of color. Furthermore, interpersonal-level factors, such as enacted PrEP stigma by providers and peers, emphasize the importance of considering social identity in the branding of PrEP for HIV prevention. Tailored interventions should consider experienced barriers to PrEP adherence across socioecological levels to be most effective.

Willingness to Discuss and Screen for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis in Pharmacies Among Men Who Have Sex With Men

Natalie D. Crawford et al.

Summary: This study surveyed willingness to discuss and be screened for PrEP in pharmacies among MSM. Results showed that most were willing to discuss and be screened for PrEP, with those interested in PrEP being more willing to discuss it. Race was not associated with willingness to discuss PrEP, but black MSM were less willing to be screened until interest in PrEP was taken into account.
