Spinal metastases treated with bipolar radiofrequency ablation with increased (> 70 °C) target temperature: Pain management and local tumor control

T. Mayer et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the safety and clinical efficacy of bipolar radiofrequency ablation (b-RFA) with increased target temperature for the treatment of spine metastases. The results showed that b-RFA with increased temperature had excellent safety and resulted in high rates of pain relief and metastasis control in patients with oligometastatic/oligoprogressive disease.

Survival Trends After Surgery for Spinal Metastatic Tumors: 20-Year Cancer Center Experience

Robert J. Rothrock et al.

Summary: The study found that postoperative survival among patients with spinal metastases has improved over the past 20 years, particularly in patients with kidney, breast, lung, and colon tumors metastatic to the spine. Patients with synchronous metastatic disease had better survival compared to those with metachronous disease. These results emphasize the need for long-term outcome consideration in treatment decisions for patients undergoing surgery for spinal metastatic tumors.

What Predicts the Prognosis of Spinal Metastases in Separation Surgery Procedures?

Yining Gong et al.

Summary: In this retrospective study involving 36 patients undergoing separation surgery and postoperative SBRT, outcomes showed that moderate resection did not significantly impact patients' prognosis. However, a minimal distance of >= 3 mm between the residual epidural tumor and spinal cord postoperatively is recommended.
