Through experimental investigation and analytical verification, it is concluded that the use of FRP laminates on prestressed concrete joists significantly increases the response of the beams.
In this paper, the bending behavior of prestressed concrete joists strengthened by fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates is described. An experimental investigation on 18 large-scale beams is conducted, allowing determination of the strengthening influence of FRP in the general behavior of prestressed joists. The mechanical parameters considered in the study are the ultimate and elastics loads and the deflection or initial stiffness of joists. The analytical verification is done to calculate the design load values of the floor system. The results indicate that the application of FRP laminates significantly increases the response of prestressed concrete joists.
