Longitudinal exposure assessments of neighbourhood effects in health research: What can be learned from people ? s residential histories?

Paulien Hagedoorn et al.

Summary: Health research on neighbourhood effects found that the influence of neighborhood socio-economic characteristics on suicide mortality varies between cumulative and current exposures. Highly fragmented neighborhoods showed lower suicide rates in cumulative exposure, but not in current exposure. Other characteristics such as urbanicity and unemployment rate showed less difference in coefficients between exposure assessments. Overall, there was little evidence to suggest that detailed cumulative exposures were stronger predictors of suicide compared to more basic measures.
