Formation of Giant Lipid Vesicle Containing Dual Functions Facilitates Outer Membrane Phospholipase

Seren Ohnishi et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel artificial cell model employing the dual functional membrane protein OmpLA for small molecule transportation and small vesicle budding. The orientation of OmpLA was controlled by lipid composition and its enzymatic activity led to budding of small vesicles. Through this mechanism, the transportation of ions or small molecules was achieved for the first time.
