Plasma IL-12/IFN-γ axis predicts cognitive trajectories in cognitively unimpaired older adults

Hyun-Sik Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that IL-12p70 and IFN-γ are associated with cognitive decline in cognitively unimpaired elderly, and this association may be related to Aβ levels. This suggests that immune dysregulation plays an important role in early-stage cognitive decline.

Translational evidence for the Inflammatory Response System (IRS)/ Compensatory Immune Response System (CIRS) and neuroprogression theory of major depression

Monojit Debnath et al.

Summary: Research has found abnormal levels of immune inflammation in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), including increased acute phase proteins and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, there is an activated inflammatory response system (IRS) and a compensatory immune response system (CIRS) present in MDD. Recent studies indicate simultaneous increases in both pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the brain of MDD patients, demonstrating activity of both the IRS and CIRS.

Insulin Reduces Inflammation by Regulating the Activation of the NLRP3 Inflammasome

Summary: Insulin may reduce inflammation by regulating the NLRP3 inflammasome, as demonstrated in in vivo models, providing evidence for its potential immunomodulatory role in anti-inflammation.

Better Identification of Cognitive Decline With Interleukin-2 Than With Amyloid and Tau Protein Biomarkers in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment

Chih-Sung Liang et al.

Summary: The study found that higher baseline levels of IL-2, sCD40L, IL-8, and VEGF were associated with slower cognitive decline in aMCI patients, while higher baseline levels of A beta(1-40), IFN gamma, IL-5, IL-17A, IL-25, and FGF were associated with faster cognitive decline in AD patients. IL-2 had a high discriminatory capacity for identifying cognitive decline, and combining IL-2 with A beta or tau biomarkers may further enhance this ability.

Intranasal Insulin Reduces White Matter Hyperintensity Progression in Association with Improvements in Cognition and CSF Biomarker Profiles in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease

D. Kellar et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of intranasally administered insulin on white matter health over 12 months and found that the insulin-treated group demonstrated significantly reduced changes in white matter hyperintensity volume progression. The study suggests that intranasal insulin treatment may be a potential therapeutic option for Alzheimer's disease.
