Investigating the effective parameters on the risk levels of rockburst phenomena by developing a hybrid heuristic algorithm

Jian Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper integrates the firefly algorithm and artificial neural network to accurately predict the risk of rockburst in deep mines and tunnels. The hybrid model successfully determines different hazard levels under various conditions and offers new solutions for classification based on success rates.

New criterion for the spalling failure of deep rock engineering based on energy release

Peng Xiao et al.

Summary: The investigation in a deep gold mine in China revealed that the number and severity of ground pressure disaster events increase significantly with the increase of mining depth. Analysis showed that the effects of maximum tangential stress, strain rebound, and strain energy release influenced the failure behavior of surrounding rock. Considering strain energy release as a new method can better explain the phenomenon of core disking and accurately calculate the theoretical thickness of core disk.

Damage behaviors, prediction methods and prevention methods of rockburst in 13 deep traffic tunnels in China

Siyue He et al.

Summary: This study analyzed 13 cases to summarize the typical damage behaviors, key prediction methods and prevention methods of rockburst in deep traffic tunnels. The results showed that rockburst mainly occurred within a few hours to half day after blasting, mainly in the crown and side walls of the tunnel cross section; multiple index methods were more reliable than single index methods in predicting rockburst in the design stage; during the construction stage, MS monitoring method and AE method were the main in-situ monitoring methods used, sometimes in conjunction with the TBM method.

Rockburst prediction in hard rock mines developing bagging and boosting tree-based ensemble techniques

Wang Shi-ming et al.

Summary: Rockburst prediction in hard rock mines was examined using three tree-based ensemble methods, with the dataset evaluated using six widely accepted indices. The study found that bagging algorithm performed best in predicting the potential of rockburst compared to other algorithms and empirical criteria methods.

Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Mode I Fracture Process of Rock by Semi-Circular Bend Specimen

Peng Xiao et al.

Summary: The stress field, fracture process zone (FPZ), and crack propagation velocity of SCB specimen during the fracture process of rock specimens were analyzed using experimental and numerical methods. The heart-shaped stress concentration zones formed near the peak load points are identified as FPZ, which forms before macro fracture occurs. The crack propagation process includes two stages: rapid crack initial development stage and final crack splitting stage.
