Origin of the quasi-quantized Hall effect in ZrTe5

S. Galeski et al.

Summary: A 3D quantum Hall effect has been observed in the Dirac semimetal ZrTe5 due to a magnetic-field-driven Fermi surface instability. The study shows evidence of quasi-quantized Hall response without Fermi surface instability, attributing it to the interplay between the intrinsic properties of ZrTe5 electronic structure and its Dirac semi-metallic character.

(Quasi-)Quantization of the electrical, thermal, and thermoelectrical conductivities in two and three dimensions

Jonathan Noky et al.

Summary: The quantum Hall effect in 2D electron systems leads to quantized conductivity, while the thermal Hall and thermoelectric Nernst conductances are also quantized in some systems. A comprehensive study of these quantities within one formalism has been elusive. The Hall and thermal Hall conductances are quantized in 2D, with quasi-quantized values found in 3D. The Nernst conductivity is not generally quantized, requiring an energy integration to obtain a universal (quasi-)quantized thermoelectric quantity.
