Preparation and Characterization of a New Polymeric Multi-Layered Material Based K-Carrageenan and Alginate for Efficient Bio-Sorption of Methylene Blue Dye

Chiraz Ammar et al.

Summary: This study focuses on a novel bio-sorbent design based on polyelectrolyte multi-layers (PEM) biopolymeric material, utilizing sodium alginate, citric acid, and k-carrageenan. Characterization using FT-IR, SEM, and thermal analysis confirmed the chemical interconnection of the PEM bio-sorbent system and the effectiveness of the grafting method. The bio-sorbent exhibited improved dye sorption performance, with maximum adsorbed amounts significantly higher for grafted materials compared to untreated samples.

Efficacy of treated sodium alginate and activated carbon fibre for Pb (II) adsorption

Ali Hashem et al.

Summary: The study compared the efficacy of treated sodium alginate (TSA) and activated carbon fibre (ACF) for aqueous Pb(II) uptake. Despite the significant difference in surface area, TSA with high carboxyl content outperformed ACF in adsorption performance. The findings emphasize the importance of surface functional groups in determining adsorptive performance.

Adsorptive removal of eriochrome black T (EBT) dye by using surface active low cost zinc oxide nanoparticles: A comparative overview

Yesbinder Kaur et al.

Summary: The study synthesized low-cost zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) with surfactant and ionic liquid molecules for the effective removal of Eriochrome Black T (EBT) from aqueous media. The adsorption of EBT followed Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetics, with pore diffusion rate affected by surface modification. ZnO-NPs were successfully regenerated and reused, with their adsorption ability systematically explored in real wastewater samples and interference study of inorganic metallic salts.

A novel adsorbent of bentonite modified chitosan-microcrystalline cellulose aerogel prepared by bidirectional regeneration strategy for Pb(II) removal

Yan Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel method for increasing the anti-hydrolytic ability and mechanical strength of traditional chitosan aerogel (CSA) was developed by bidirectional regeneration of chitosan and microcrystalline cellulose to synthesize chitosan-microcrystalline cellulose aerogel (CS-MCCA). Bentonite (BT) was introduced in the regeneration process to enhance the adsorption rate of CSA, leading to the development of an efficient adsorbent for Pb(II) removal, bentonite-chitosan-microcrystalline cellulose aerogel (BT-CS-MCCA). The bidirectional regeneration strategy of biomass resources presented a brand-new path for utilization in wastewater treatment.
