Adaptation of Insulin Clearance to Metabolic Demand Is a Key Determinant of Glucose Tolerance

Amalia Gastaldelli et al.

Summary: The development of insulin resistance leads to increased plasma insulin response to offset the defect in insulin action, maintaining normal glucose tolerance. Metabolic clearance rate of insulin (MCRI) is closely related to insulin resistance, showing different patterns in individuals with different glucose tolerance and diabetes statuses.

3. Prevention or Delay of Type 2 Diabetes: Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes-2021

Summary: The American Diabetes Association's Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes consist of clinical practice recommendations, components of diabetes care, and tools for evaluating quality of care. The committee is responsible for updating the standards annually, and monitoring for the development of type 2 diabetes in those with prediabetes is suggested. Screening for prediabetes in high-risk patients is recommended as it provides an effective means of preventing type 2 diabetes.

New Insights on the Interactions Between Insulin Clearance and the Main Glucose Homeostasis Mechanisms

Roberto Bizzotto et al.

Summary: The study found that insulin sensitivity is the strongest determinant of EICISR, being approximately four times more influential than insulin resistance-related hypersecretion. EICISR is positively associated with factors such as M/I, fasting and mean OGTT glucose, and beta-cell glucose sensitivity, while negatively associated with African American or Hispanic race, female sex, and female age. Oral glucose ingestion reduces insulin clearance, and there are two adaptive processes involving insulin clearance that are dysregulated in type 2 diabetes.
