Cooking oil/fat consumption and deaths from cardiometabolic diseases and other causes: prospective analysis of 521,120 individuals

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: The consumption of butter and margarine was found to be associated with higher total and cardiometabolic mortality, while replacing them with canola oil, corn oil, or olive oil was linked to lower total and cardiometabolic mortality. This suggests that shifting intake from solid fats to non-hydrogenated vegetable oils may promote cardiometabolic health and longevity.

Water Security and Nutrition: Current Knowledge and Research Opportunities

Joshua D. Miller et al.

Summary: Water is not only considered a essential nutrient in terms of physiological necessity but also critical for various nutrition-related behaviors and activities. With challenges such as climate change and pollution affecting water availability and safety, a broader conceptualization of water and its diverse uses is needed to achieve global nutrition targets sustainably. Studying the linkages between water security and nutrition, identifying knowledge gaps, and proposing a research agenda are essential for promoting collaboration between the nutrition and water sectors to ensure equitable access to healthy foods and safe water for all.

Consumption of Deep-Fried Food and Its Association with Cardiovascular Risk Factors among First-Year Students in a Chilean University

Marcos Flores et al.

Summary: The study found that the majority of people in Chile consume deep-fried foods more than 4 times monthly, with most preferring products sold by street vendors, and show cardiovascular risk factors. The prevalence of elevated CVRF values is significantly higher in men than in women, and there is a significant increase in the prevalence of elevated CVRF values when students consume deep-fried foods more frequently per month.
