Characterisation of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in the Japanese context: an exploratory cross-sectional analysis

Kentaro Murakami et al.

Summary: This study examined the contribution of specific meals to total intakes and the nutritional quality of each meal. The findings showed that dinner had the highest diet quality, followed by lunch, breakfast, and snacks. The intake of many foods largely depended on one specific meal type, while rice and eggs were more evenly distributed across three main meals.

Data-driven development of the Meal-based Diet History Questionnaire for Japanese adults

Kentaro Murakami et al.

Summary: The Meal-based Diet History Questionnaire (MDHQ) was developed for estimating food and nutrient intakes for each meal type separately, using information derived from 242 Japanese adults. The questionnaire consists of three parts with a total of 196 items and calculation algorithms for food groups, energy, and nutrients. The MDHQ shows promise for future epidemiological research on meal patterns and time of day of dietary intake.

Does Personalized Nutrition Advice Improve Dietary Intake in Healthy Adults? A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials

Rachael Jinnette et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that personalized nutrition advice can lead to greater improvements in dietary intake compared to generalized advice. Additional well-designed trials with a broader range of dietary outcomes and comparisons between personalized approaches based on diet, biology, and lifestyle are needed.
