Molecular mechanisms altering tubular calcium reabsorption

Mallory L. Downie et al.

Summary: Most calcium filtered by the glomerulus is reabsorbed along the nephron through distinct cellular and paracellular pathways regulated by specific genes, with mutations in some of these genes leading to hypercalciuria. Understanding these molecular pathways can help in developing dietary and medical interventions to reduce urinary calcium excretion.

Urinary metabolic profile and stone composition in kidney stone formers with and without heart disease

Summary: Stone formers with CVD have lower renal alkali excretion, possibly suggesting higher acid retention in stone formers with cardiovascular comorbidities. Randomized clinical trials including medications and a controlled diet design are needed to confirm the results presented here.

The Role of Diet in Bone and Mineral Metabolism and Secondary Hyperparathyroidism

Matteo Bargagli et al.

Summary: Diet plays a crucial role in the management and prevention of secondary hyperparathyroidism, with evidence supporting reduced phosphate intake, avoiding low calcium and vitamin D consumption, and considering individualized dietary modifications based on existing risk factors. Further studies are needed to assess the long-term outcomes of a balanced diet in at-risk patients.
