State of the art and prospects in the development of proton-conducting perfluorinated membranes with short side chains: A review

Oleg N. Primachenko et al.

Summary: This review focuses on key problems in the development of modern proton-conducting membranes for hydrogen power, particularly for use in fuel cells at high temperatures without catalyst poisoning. It discusses new synthesis approaches and the modification of membranes with chemically stable nanoparticles. Advanced structural methods play a crucial role in understanding molecular ordering and the formation of conducting channels in membranes, with neutron scattering being highlighted as a powerful tool for analysis of ionomers and nanoscale structures in membrane materials. Integration of novel methods such as emulsion polymerization and the use of nanodiamonds and other nanoparticles in polymer matrices shows promise for creating new generations of membrane materials with enhanced functional properties.

Ionomer network of catalyst layers for proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Hong Ren et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance and internal mechanism of SSC PFSA ionomers in proton exchange membrane fuel cells, revealing the correlation between the distribution of different EW ionomers in CL and their performance. By increasing IEC and reducing ionomer adsorption on Pt/C, the formation of Pt/C-ionomer connection network is facilitated, leading to a more uniform ionomer proton conduction network in the CL.
