Recurrent dynamics of rupture transitions of giant lipid vesicles at solid surfaces

Viviane N. Ngassam et al.

Summary: A study found distinct differences in the way single giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) rupture and the dynamics of their burst-resesl processes on hydrophobic and solid hydrophilic surfaces. The competition process in these rupture events determines the course of the topological transition under surface-energy-dependent adhesion.

Cathelicidin and PMB neutralize endotoxins by multifactorial mechanisms including LPS interaction and targeting of host cell membranes

Andra B. Schromm et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial peptides play an important role in defending against infections by interacting with microbial membranes and lipids, with endotoxin-induced hyperinflammation being a key factor. Host defense peptide and peptide antibiotic were shown to reduce endotoxin activation by directly interacting with host cells. This discovery of a host cell-directed mechanism of immune control provides valuable insights for the development and therapeutic use of AMPs.

Advances in the Development of Biomaterials for Endotoxin Adsorption in Sepsis

Qinbo Yang et al.

Summary: Sepsis, a life-threatening disease caused by endotoxin, lacks specific treatment. Although attempts have been made to use endotoxin adsorbents for blood purification in septic patients, the mortality rate remains high. Future development of endotoxin adsorbents should focus on critical parameters such as dissociation constant and maximum adsorption capacity.
