Understanding the scale-up of fermentation processes from the viewpoint of the flow field in bioreactors and the physiological response of strains

Jianye Xia et al.

Summary: The production capability of a fermentation process is largely determined by individual strains, which are ultimately influenced by the interactions between the scale-dependent flow field in bioreactors and the physiological response of these strains. Interpreting these complex interactions is crucial for better understanding the scale-up of fermentation processes. Current research progress focuses on scaling-up strategies and proposes incorporating multiomics big data into the scaling-up strategy to improve the design and operation of industrial fermentation processes.

Identification of toxicity pathway of diesel particulate matter using AOP of PPARγ inactivation leading to pulmonary fibrosis

Jaeseong Jeong et al.

Summary: Diesel particulate matter (DPM) is a major subset of urban fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and has been classified as a group 1 carcinogen due to its complex mixture of various chemicals. Using the Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) approach, we identified the toxicity pathway of DPM and demonstrated the usefulness of ToxCast and deep learning models in determining potential toxicity pathways of chemical mixtures like DPM.

Physicochemical and mutagenic analysis of particulate matter emissions from an automotive diesel engine fuelled with fossil and biofuel blends

Federico Millo et al.

Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive characterization of diesel Particulate Matter (PM) in terms of various factors, including mass, chemical composition, particles number, size distribution, and mutagenic potential. The study found that different fuel blends in a diesel engine can result in variations in the chemical composition and toxicity of PM. Biofuel blends showed negligible differences in particles number distributions compared to standard diesel, but had an impact on the mutagenic potential of PM samples.

The performance and emissions characteristics of diesel/biodiesel/alcohol blends in a diesel engine

Qixin Ma et al.

Summary: The study found that adding alcohol to diesel-biodiesel blends can reduce engine power loss, improve stability, and lower emissions. Compared to other tested fuels, the B10P10 blend exhibited better stability and combustion state at various speeds.

Lubricity of Ethanol-Diesel Fuel Blends-Study with the Four-Ball Machine Method

Hubert Kuszewski et al.

Summary: This study introduces an alternative lubricity assessment method for diesel-ethanol blends, using a four-ball machine to measure the scuffing load. The results show that an increase in ethanol volume fraction leads to a decrease in lubricating properties of the blend.

ENZYMATIC HYDROLYSIS OF FAST-GROWING POPLAR WOOD AFTER PRETREATMENT BY STEAM EXPLOSION

Anna Galazka et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of steam explosion pretreatment on the yield of enzymatic hydrolysis of wood biomass, using genetically modified poplar wood. Results showed higher enzymatic efficiency at 190 and 205 degrees C. Economically, using steam heating medium and natural gas or biomass as an energy source is advantageous.
