Corrosion of high-velocity-oxygen-fuel (HVOF) sprayed non-crystalline alloy coating in marine environment

Hung-Bin Lee et al.

Summary: Amorphous Fe alloy coating was prepared on SUS316 substrate using HVOF spraying process, showing high hardness but micro-voids and micro-cracks. XRD and TEM confirmed the presence of amorphous and nano-crystalline phases in the coating. Corrosion tests revealed better resistance in neutral solutions and significant increase in corrosion current in seawater with higher over-potentials, attributed to oxidation of Mo and Cr elements in the Fe alloy.

Investigation of the Structural Heterogeneity and Corrosion Performance of the Annealed Fe-Based Metallic Glasses

Dandan Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of annealing at different temperatures on the structural heterogeneity, mechanical property, electrochemical behavior, and passive film characteristics of Fe-Cr-Mo-W-C-B-Y metallic glasses (MGs). Results showed that annealing below the glass transition temperature enhanced corrosion resistance by forming a protective passive film, while annealing in the supercooled liquid region led to destabilized passive film and deteriorated corrosion resistance. Structural heterogeneity plays a crucial role in tuning the corrosion performance of MGs.

Electrochemical metrics for corrosion resistant alloys

Clara Nyby et al.

Summary: Corrosion is an electrochemical phenomenon and can occur through different modes, with localized corrosion in corrosion resistant alloys potentially exceeding uniform corrosion rates by orders of magnitude. More complex electrochemical parameters are necessary to capture the key features of corrosion phenomena. This dataset of experimental data could be valuable for designing highly corrosion resistant alloys.

A study on corrosion and corrosion-wear behavior of Fe-based amorphous alloy coating prepared by high velocity oxygen fuel method

Chun-Ying Lee et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the corrosion-wear behavior of a Fe-based amorphous alloy coating in sea water. Experimental results showed that under low polarization potential, a passivation protective layer of chromium trioxide is formed, while at high polarization potential, a more effective corrosion resistance layer is formed by molybdate.

Summary: The Fe-based amorphous alloy powders were sprayed on stainless steel substrates, and the microstructure, hardness, corrosion behavior, and stability of the coatings were analyzed through various tests. The coatings showed a transition behavior of activation, passivation, and over passivation under sea water and NaCl solution, with good corrosion resistance and stability observed over time.
