Thermal Stability of Ionic Liquids: Current Status and Prospects for Future Development

Chenqian Xu et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids are considered the safest solvents in high-temperature applications due to their non-flammable properties, with thermogravimetric analysis being extensively used for studying their thermal stability. Isoconversional methods are found to be superior to Arrhenius methods in calculating activation energy, and the use of compensation effect and master plots is suggested for pre-exponential factor calculation. The structure of cations has some influence on thermal stability, but anions play a larger role. Developing dicationic ILs can lead to enhanced thermal stability.

Thermal Stability and Decomposition Kinetics of 1-Alkyl-2,3-Dimethylimidazolium Nitrate Ionic Liquids: TGA and DFT Study

Jianwen Meng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal stability and decomposition kinetics of 1-alkyl-2,3-dimethylimidazole nitrate ionic liquids with different alkyl chains, and found that the thermal stability decreases and thermal hazard increases with longer alkyl chains on the cation. These results can provide guidance for the safety design and use of imidazolium nitrate ionic liquids in engineering.

Thermal Decomposition Kinetic Study of Non-Recyclable Paper and Plastic Waste by Thermogravimetric Analysis

Ahmad Mohamed S. H. Al-Moftah et al.

Summary: Thermal treatment of solid waste is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions, with gasification and pyrolysis being valuable processes for converting waste into energy sources. The resulting Subcoal (TM) can be utilized as a fuel for power generation or a reductant in the blast furnace ironmaking process.
