Simultaneously improving the electrical properties and long-term stability of ZnO varistor ceramics by reversely manipulating intrinsic point defects

Men Guo et al.

Summary: Doping NiO in ZnO varistor ceramics can improve their electrical properties and long-term stability simultaneously. This improvement is achieved by manipulating point defects to reduce zinc interstitial density and increase oxygen vacancy density.

Colossal permittivity due to electron trapping behaviors at the edge of double Schottky barrier

Kangning Wu et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the challenge of achieving frequency- and temperature-independent colossal permittivity with low dielectric loss, using CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics as an example. It identifies the electron-trapping behaviors at the edge of a double Schottky barrier as the cause of CP, and highlights the importance of proper manipulation of the barrier and related defect structures for stable CP with low dielectric loss.

Synthesis and characterization of ZnO-based nano-powders: study of the effect of sintering temperature on the performance of ZnO-Bi2O3 varistors

Amal Boumezoued et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the improvement of varistor devices using a ZnO-based material through the synthesis of pure and 1% Bi-doped ZnO nano-powders at different sintering temperatures. Characterizations by XRD and TEM show good nonohmic behavior and the formation of Shottky barriers at grain boundaries, indicating potential for improving surge arrester protection in power and network systems.

Synergistic Effects of Pr6O11 and Co3O4 on Electrical and Microstructure Features of ZnO-BaTiO3 Varistor Ceramics

Muhamad Syaizwadi Shaifudin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Pr6O11 and Co3O4 on the electrical properties of ZnO-BaTiO3 varistor ceramics. Pr6O11 doping improved the nonlinear coefficient and reduced leakage current, while Co3O4 doping decreased breakdown voltage and enhanced nonlinear electrical performance.

Effects of the Er2O3 doping on the microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO-Bi2O3 based varistor ceramics

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that appropriate Er2O3 doping can decrease grain size, improve the homogeneity of grain size distribution, and contribute to a well-connected Bi2O3 intergranular network, leading to enhanced electrical properties in varistors. However, excessive Er2O3 content can generate excess Er2O3 phases at grain boundaries, which further impairs the connectivity of Bi2O3 networks and decreases the nonlinearity of varistors.

Enhancement of Electro-Thermal Characteristics of Micro/Nano ZnO Based Surge Arrester

R. Rohini et al.

Summary: This study involves the preparation and characterization of varistor samples with different material compositions. It was found that Sample 4 exhibited better non-linearity, permittivity, resistivity, and dissipation factor values compared to the other samples. The inclusion of SrO in Sample 4 resulted in improved surge arrester characteristics, with the enhancement attributed to the increase in active grain boundary area and the exclusive formation of ZnSrO2 phase leading to enhanced thermal conductivity.
