Abrasive Sensitivity of Martensitic and a Multi-Phase Steels under Different Abrasive Conditions

Adam Kalacska et al.

Summary: The wear behaviour of two martensitic and one multiphase steel, targeted for abrasion and erosion applications in agriculture and mining industry, was investigated using three different abrasive test systems. Through analysis and comparison of various parameters, it was found that the dominant variable of the wear mechanism varied in different configurations, and correlations between parameters were established. The sensitivity of the tested materials to abrasion was evaluated, taking into account a wide range of influencing parameters.

The coupled effect of thermal and mechanical stabilities of austenite on the wear resistance in a 0.2C-5Mn-1.6Si steel down to cryogenic temperatures

Xincheng Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of testing temperatures on wear-induced austenite-martensite transformation and wear resistance in metastable austenite-containing steels. The results show that metastable austenite enhances strain hardening and toughness, significantly reducing wear volume at low temperatures and changing the dominant wear mechanism. The wear resistance of austenite-rich steel is influenced by the thermal and mechanical stabilities of metastable austenite, providing a basis for developing novel wear resistant steels with relatively low initial hardness for low temperature applications.
