Liquid-liquid equilibrium data for the ternary system based on ionic liquid plus organic solvents + water at 298 K and atmospheric pressure applied in antidepressant partitioning

Summary: This study investigates the partitioning of antidepressants such as fluoxetine hydrochloride, paroxetine hydrochloride, and sertraline hydrochloride through the construction of phase diagrams for different biphasic systems. The driving force for phase separation is the comparison of hydrophobic/hydrophilic characteristics between the constituents, resulting in the selective isolation of pairs of these antidepressants. The recoveries were high, showing the effectiveness of the proposed systems in promoting the partitioning of antidepressants.

Enhancing Artemisinin Solubility in Aqueous Solutions: Searching for Hydrotropes based on Ionic Liquids

Summary: This study investigated the potential of ionic liquids in enhancing the water solubility of artemisinin, finding that ionic liquids containing thiocyanate or dicyanamide cations can significantly increase the solubility of artemisinin in water, comparable to the best organic solvents. Through experimental and modeling analysis, it was discovered that the apolarity of the solvent and the lower hydrogen-bond acceptor character of the hydrotrope are favorable for the solubility enhancement of artemisinin.

Poloxamer-based aqueous biphasic systems in designing an integrated extraction platform for the valorization of pharmaceutical waste

Summary: This study aimed to investigate and propose a new integrated extraction technology for valorization of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from unused/expired pharmaceuticals by using eco-friendly components. The results showed that citrate-based ABS induced the strongest salting-out effect for extracting APIs with high recovery efficiencies, while ionic liquid/PL6200-based ABS was used for fractionating acetaminophen and caffeine towards opposite phases. These findings demonstrate the viability and adjustability of PL6200-based ABSs as a sustainable and efficient alternative platform on a larger scale.

Cholinium-based ionic liquids as bioinspired hydrotropes to tackle solubility challenges in drug formulation

Summary: Ionic liquids show superior hydrotropic abilities, significantly increasing the aqueous solubility of hydrophobic drugs, with cholinium salicylate showing the most remarkable enhancement effect. These bio-based ionic liquids are able to boost drug solubility even at low concentrations, which is crucial in the field of drug formulation. The mechanism of solubility in these novel hydrotropes relies on synergism between amphiphilic ions.
