Organic Modifiers Promote Furfuryl Alcohol Ring Hydrogenation via Surface Hydrogen-Bonding Interactions

Patrick D. Coan et al.

Summary: The study shows that thiol modifiers inhibit ring hydrogenation activity of Pd/Al2O3 catalysts, while phosphonic acid (PA) modifiers enhance hydrogenation of furfuryl alcohol. Thiol modifiers mainly block active sites, whereas PA modifiers stabilize product states through hydrogen-bonding interactions with surface intermediates derived from the reactants.

N-Heterocyclic carbenes as tunable ligands for catalytic metal surfaces

Maximilian Koy et al.

Summary: This review discusses the use of N-heterocyclic carbenes as molecular modifiers for metal surfaces, aiming to improve the reactivity of metal-based heterogeneous catalysts. Combining sophisticated ligand systems from homogeneous catalysis with metal surfaces can enhance parameters such as stability and selectivity of catalysts.

Controlling the selectivity of bimetallic platinum-ruthenium nanoparticles supported on N-doped graphene by adjusting their metal composition

Christian Cerezo-Navarrete et al.

Summary: Mono and bimetallic platinum-ruthenium nanoparticles were synthesized on N-doped graphene using an organometallic approach. It was found that the activity and selectivity of the bimetallic nanoparticles are highly dependent on the support and metal composition, with higher Pt/Ru ratio leading to higher selectivity. Adjusting the metal composition allows for control of the activity and selectivity of the bimetallic Pt-Ru nanoparticles supported on N-doped graphene.
