Automated analysis of genomic sequences facilitates high-throughput and comprehensive description of bacteria

Thomas C. A. Hitch et al.

Summary: The study of microbial communities is hindered by the vast number of unknown bacteria, many of which lack valid names or descriptions. Protologger is a bioinformatic tool that streamlines the process of writing detailed protologues by automatically generating taxonomic outputs, functional features, and ecological analysis. By utilizing Protologger, researchers were able to describe 34 novel taxa, including 17 species and 17 genera, highlighting the importance of using multiple taxonomic delineation methods for robust placement. Protologger is open source and available online at www.protologger.de.
