Effect of wetting-drying cycle on hydraulic and mechanical properties of cemented paste backfill of the recycled solid wastes

Dan Ma et al.

Summary: The study shows that with increasing wetting-drying cycles, the porosity and permeability of CPB samples increase, with those having smaller particle size distribution and cementing strength being more sensitive. The uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus of CPB samples deteriorate during wetting-drying cycles, especially for those with smaller particle size distribution and cementing strength. The deterioration process of mechanical properties of CPB samples due to wetting-drying cycles can be divided into initial deterioration and re-deterioration stages, with the periodic destruction of the cemented structures verified through microstructure analysis.

A new method to determine surface relaxivity of tight sandstone cores based on LF-NMR and high-speed centrifugation measurements

Yun Jiang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a new method (PTC method) to calculate the surface relaxivity of tight sandstone cores, which is more efficient compared to the traditional ARS method. The results showed an exponential correlation between PTC value and surface relaxivity, with residual oil mainly distributed in micropores and mesopores.

Factors affecting pore structure of granite under cyclic heating and cooling: A nuclear magnetic resonance investigation

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: Research findings suggest that cyclic heating and cooling can increase porosity and decrease ultrasonic velocity in granite; as heating temperature, cooling rate, and thermal cycles increase, porosity and movable porosity of samples increase, while pore complexity decreases; granite with lower heating temperature or finer particles can maintain stable pore structure for more thermal cycles.

Reutilization of gangue wastes in underground backfilling mining: Overburden aquifer protection

Dan Ma et al.

Summary: Gangue backfilling mining (GBM) can effectively alleviate gangue pollution and protect overburden aquifers. The hydraulic properties and deformation behaviors of granular gangues were studied, showing that these properties vary with the original grain size grade and stress rate. An improved model based on fractal dimension was found to have better accuracy in predicting permeability evolution compared to the traditional Kruger model.

Determining the transverse surface relaxivity of reservoir rocks: A critical review and perspective

Xinmin Ge et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in characterizing the pore structure of reservoir rocks using the low field nuclear magnetic resonance technique. The review and analysis recommend a composited experiment to measure the surface relaxivity and propose a possible workflow to obtain the variable surface relaxivity. It is important to use multi scale experiments to characterize the full-scale pore space and consider using multiple surface relaxivities for heterogeneous reservoir rocks.

Influence of block shape on macroscopic deformation response and meso-fabric evolution of crushed gangue under the triaxial compression

Junmeng Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a digital 3D model of irregular gangue blocks was obtained using CT scanning and 3D reconstruction technology. The research focused on the influence of block shape on the properties of crushed gangue, revealing that irregular block shapes affect the void ratio and bearing capacity of the samples.
