Intensive Care Unit-Like Care of Nonhuman Primates with Ebola Virus Disease

Paul W. Blair et al.

Summary: This study compared the effect of EVD supportive care algorithms on duration of survival in a controlled nonhuman primate model, with no significant difference observed between the ICU-like algorithms and the control group in terms of survival duration. However, NHPs treated with ICU-like algorithms showed delayed onset of liver and kidney injury.

Remdesivir is efficacious in rhesus monkeys exposed to aerosolized Ebola virus

Travis K. Warren et al.

Summary: The study found that treatment with remdesivir initiated 4 days after exposure to aerosolized Ebola virus resulted in significant survival benefits, reduction in viral titers, improvements in clinical pathology biomarkers levels, and lung histology compared to vehicle treatment. These observations suggest that remdesivir may have value in countering aerosol-induced Ebola virus disease.
