Systematic Review of the Management of Ureteroarterial Fistulas After Ileal Conduit Urinary Diversion

Felipe Matsunaga et al.

Summary: This study found that female sex, chronic ureteral stent placement, and past surgical intervention and irradiation for pelvic malignancy are predisposing factors for ureteroarterial fistula. Combined endovascular and endoureteral techniques show comparable outcomes to surgical approaches in the short and intermediate term. Close follow-up post-procedure is necessary, although the use of post-procedural antibiotics remains uncertain.

Endovascular therapy of arterioureteral fistulas

Summary: Arterioureteral fistulas (AUFs), severe pathologies with increasing incidence in patients with malignancy and after pelvic surgery, can be effectively and safely treated using endovascular techniques. However, re-intervention may be necessary in some cases.

Management and endovascular therapy of ureteroarterial fistulas: experience from a single center and review of the literature

Bjoern Simon et al.

Summary: Endovascular therapy for ureteroarterial fistula (UAF) shows high technical success rates and rapid bleeding control, with rare but significant severe complications such as stent graft occlusions or infections. Close and long-term follow-up, along with timely repeated endovascular or surgical interventions if necessary, is crucial for improving stent graft durability and patient outcomes.

Endovascular and open surgical options in the treatment of uretero-arterial fistulas

Summary: The study reports on the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of 25 patients with uretero-arterial fistula, highlighting that endovascular treatment is effective and less invasive in controlling arterial bleeding associated with the condition, but some patients may still require open surgical treatment.
