Algogenic organic matter fouling alleviation in membrane distillation by peroxymonosulfate (PMS): Role of PMS concentration and activation temperature

Muhammad Bilal Asif et al.

Summary: Membrane distillation (MD) has been a focus of research, but membrane fouling remains a challenge. This study compared the performance of standalone direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) with integrated peroxymonosulfate (PMS)/DCMD for treating surface water with algogenic organic matter (AOM), finding that the removal of conductivity and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was similar between the two methods. However, membrane fouling significantly reduced the permeate flux in the standalone DCMD. By pre-treating at 60 degrees C and using an optimum PMS concentration of 10 mM, membrane fouling could be effectively mitigated.

Removal of aqueous organic contaminants using submerged ceramic hollow fiber membrane coupled with peroxymonosulfate oxidation: Comparison of CuO catalyst dispersed in the feed water and immobilized on the membrane

Songxue Wang et al.

Summary: The performance of CuO catalyst dispersed in the feed water (CDF) and CuO catalyst immobilized on the ceramic hollow fiber membrane (CIM) for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation in submerged membrane filtration systems was systematically investigated and compared. The CIM system showed greater advantage in BPA degradation and TOC removal when treating a large volume of feed (>300 mL), and exhibited higher resistance to adverse water matrix and better antifouling performance compared to the CDF system.

Activation of peroxodisulfate and peroxymonosulfate by ultrasound with different frequencies: Impact on ibuprofen removal efficient, cost estimation and energy analysis

Yonghyeon Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation efficiency of ibuprofen using different advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) with peroxodisulfate (PDS), peroxymonosulfate (PMS), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at various ultrasonic frequencies. Results showed that PDS and PMS had the highest activation efficiency at a frequency of 1000 kHz, with PDS being more effective than PMS. Additionally, an increase in pH during IBP decomposition resulted in a decrease in the IBP reaction rate constant.
