Enhanced NO, CO and C3H6 conversion on Pt/Pd catalysts: Impact of oxygen storage material and catalyst architecture

Zhiyu Zhou et al.

Summary: Simultaneous conversion of NO, CO and C3H6 was carried out on washcoated monoliths containing oxygen storage material-promoted mixed Platinum group metals to evaluate the promotion effects and identify the best architecture. PGM supported directly on the OSM was found to be the best design for one type of OSM, while a dual-layer architecture outperformed the MFO-supported PGM catalyst. Enhancement in conversion efficiency was achieved with the dual-layer PGM-MFO catalyst due to a direct catalytic contribution from the spinel. The study provides insights into the benefits of OSM and guidance for optimizing multi-component PGM + OSM catalyst composition and architecture.

The influence of CNTs addition on Mn-Ce/TiO2 catalyst for low-temperature NH3-SCR of NO

Jae-Rang Youn et al.

Summary: By adding CNTs to Mn-Ce/TiO2 catalyst, the efficiency and N-2 selectivity of low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 can be significantly improved. The addition of CNTs provides more NOx adsorption sites, making the reaction more efficient.

De-NOx characteristics of HC-SCR system employing combined Ag/Al2O3 and CuSn/ZSM-5 catalyst

Kyungseok Lee et al.

Summary: The combination of Ag/Al2O3 and CuSn/ZSM-5 showed superior catalytic performance in reducing NOx and oxidizing C3H6 at lower temperatures. Sequential arrangement of 1Ag/Al2O3 + 2Cu1Sn/ZSM-5 was found to be the best catalytic configuration for simultaneous reduction of NOx, C3H6, and H-2 over a wide temperature range. The reduced NOx was mostly converted to N-2 with minimal generation of N2O, NH3, and HCNO.

Ce-promoted Mn/ZSM-5 catalysts for highly efficient decomposition of ozone

Linlin Wei et al.

Summary: Manganese oxides supported by ZSM-5 zeolite, modified by Ce promoter, showed high catalytic activity and stability for ozone decomposition. The synergies of moderate Si/Al ratio and Ce doping enhanced the amount of low valance manganese, while the synergy between MnOx and CeO2 increased the catalyst's reducibility. This study provides important insights for utilizing porous zeolite to disperse active manganese component for ozone decomposition.

Plasma-enhanced low temperature NH3-SCR of NOx over a Cu-Mn/SAPO-34 catalyst under oxygen-rich conditions

Boqiong Jiang et al.

Summary: In this work, a two-stage post-plasma-catalytic configuration was used to investigate the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma-enhanced NH3-selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) of NOx over a Cu-Mn/SAPO-34 catalyst at low temperatures and oxygen-rich conditions. The results showed high NOx removal and N2 selectivity without NH3 slip or by-product formation, with stable performance over multiple catalyst regeneration cycles. This work successfully showcased a promising low-temperature plasma-catalytic solution for effective NH3-SCR of NOx.

Junqiang Xu et al.

Summary: This study developed a non-noble metal catalyst with high activity and selectivity for NO-SCR reaction at low temperatures. The catalyst's success can be attributed to more Br?nsted acid sites, higher surface dispersion of manganese species, increased oxygen vacancies, and larger pore size.

The same chemical state of carbon gives rise to two peaks in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

G. Greczynski et al.

Summary: Chemical state analysis in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) relies on assigning well-defined binding energy values to core level electrons originating from atoms in particular bonding configurations. Here, direct evidence is presented for the violation of this paradigm, as the C 1s peak due to C-C/C-H bonded atoms from adventitious carbon (AdC) layers splits into two distinctly different contributions. This finding exposes fundamental problems with the reliability of reported XPS data and suggests discontinuing the use of adventitious carbon in XPS.
