UPLC-Triple-TOF/MS characterization of phenolic constituents and the influence of natural deep eutectic solvents on extraction of Carya cathayensis Sarg. peels: Composition, extraction mechanism and in vitro biological activities

Xizhe Fu et al.

Summary: NADES, as a green alternative to traditional organic solvents, has been increasingly studied for the extraction of bioactive compounds. In this study, phytochemicals in Carya cathayensis Sarg. peels were extracted using Choline chloride-Malic acid, with 29 compounds identified. The extract exhibited high phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, and inhibition activities against alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase. The extraction efficiency of ChCl-MA was attributed to larger solvent accessible surface area, more hydrogen bonds, longer lifetime of hydrogen bonds, and lower intermolecular interaction energy.
