Quality improvement of bamboo shoots by removal of antinutrients using different processing techniques: A review

Nirmala Chongtham et al.

Summary: Bamboo shoot is a nutritious food source in Asian countries, but it contains antinutrients such as cyanogenic glycosides and phytates which can lead to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. Proper processing techniques like soaking, boiling, drying, and fermentation can reduce the level of antinutrients to improve the quality of bamboo shoots.

Synergism of sweeping frequency ultrasound and deep eutectic solvents pretreatment for fractionation of sugarcane bagasse and enhancing enzymatic hydrolysis

Qinghua Ji et al.

Summary: The study investigated the synergistic role of ultrasound and deep eutectic solvents in the fractionation of sugarcane bagasse, showing significant improvements in lignin and hemicellulose removal rates. Analytical studies revealed that the proposed pretreatment method effectively destroyed the ultrastructure of the sugarcane bagasse and reduced the cellulose crystallinity. The application of the SFUS + DES pretreatment method was able to improve the removal of lignin and hemicellulose from sugarcane bagasse.

Dietary exposure and risk assessment of cyanide via cassava consumption in Chinese population

Yongheng Zhong et al.

Summary: This paper evaluated the dietary risks of cassava cyanide and proposed a maximum residue limit for cyanogenic glycosides in cassava. The results showed no chronic health risk across all populations concerning cassava consumption. It is suggested that risk assessment of cyanide for foods rich in CNGs should be based on CNGs quantification rather than that of CN-.
