Insight into anticorrosion/antiwear behavior of inorganic-organic multilayer protection system composed of nitriding layer and epoxy coating with Ti3C2Tx MXene

Han Yan et al.

Summary: The synergy of plasma nitriding technique and epoxy composite coating is an effective strategy to protect aluminum (Al) alloys from corrosion and wear. The inorganic-organic multilayer protection system, composed of nitriding layer and Ti3C2Tx/epoxy coating, shows significant improvements in electrochemical impedance and wear rate, making it a promising candidate for antiwear and anticorrosion applications.

The potential of Ti3C2Tx nano-sheets (MXenes) for nanoscale solid lubrication revealed by friction force microscopy

A. Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Ti3C2Tx nano-sheets exhibit solid lubrication properties on the nanoscale, reducing friction on silicon dioxide substrates, although not as effectively as few-layer graphene. This paves the way for further investigations into nanoscale solid lubrication achieved by Ti3C2Tx (MXene) nano-sheets.

Environmentally-adaptive epoxy lubricating coating using self-assembled pMXene@polytetrafluoroethylene core-shell hybrid as novel additive

Yawen Yang et al.

Summary: In this work, a novel lubricating additive was designed and synthesized via self-assembling of wrapped PTFE nanoparticles by exfoliated MXene nanosheets. The pMXene@polytetrafluoroethylene (pMXene@PTFE) hybrid was introduced into epoxy coating and painted to substrate, showing excellent friction-reduction and wear-resistance properties in multiple environments. These improvements are mainly attributed to the lubricating synergistic effect of MXene sheets and PTFE hybrid additive, good dispersibility and adhesion of composite additive, as well as the formation of protective film on the upper counterpart.

Nano friction and adhesion properties on Ti3C2 and Nb2C MXene studied by AFM

Xuanli Zhou et al.

Summary: This study compared the nano friction and adhesion of Ti3C2 and Nb2C MXene for the first time using AFM Nanoman technology, and found that Nb2C exhibited lower friction and adhesion properties than Ti3C2 under the same conditions, which is related to the difference in surface dipole moment density. Additionally, the adhesion and friction of both MXenes decreased with increasing temperature, providing broader application prospects for these new materials.

Tribological behavior of Ni3Al-Ag based self-lubricating alloy with Ag2MoO4 formed by high temperature tribo-chemical reaction

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that adding 20% silver to nickel aluminum alloy can significantly improve the lubricating properties, especially at high temperatures. The interaction between silver and silver molybdate formed by tribological chemical reactions reduces the coefficient of friction effectively.

Tribological properties of Ti3C2Tx MXene reinforced interpenetrating polymers network coating

Dongmei He et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the importance of the multiple advantages of Ti3C2Tx MXene in enhancing the mechanical properties of organic coatings. Incorporating amino-functionalized Ti3C2Tx nanosheets into an interpenetrating polymers network (IPN) to construct composite coatings shows excellent tribological properties under extreme conditions, mainly due to good dispersion, interfacial compatibility, and barrier properties of the nanosheets. This work provides a pathway to address wear/corrosion issues of organic coatings under extreme conditions.

Ni nanoparticles/V4C3Tx MXene heterostructures for electrocatalytic nitrogen fixation

Cheng-Feng Du et al.

Summary: This study reports a highly efficient NRR electrocatalyst by loading Ni nanoparticles on V4C3Tx MXene, which exhibits significantly improved NRR activity compared to other MXene derivatives and even comparable to noble-metal-based electrocatalysts. The enhanced NRR performance is attributed to a synergistic NRR route by Ni sites in the nanoparticles and the surface O vacancy of V4C3Tx MXene, demonstrating the critical role of MXene and its derivatives with surface modification as electrocatalysts.
