Development and application of a quadruplex real-time PCR assay for differential detection of porcine circoviruses (PCV1 to PCV4) in Jiangsu province of China from 2016 to 2020

Nanhua Chen et al.

Summary: There are four species of porcine circoviruses (PCVs) and a quadruplex real-time PCR assay has been developed in this study to differentiate PCV1-4 with satisfactory results. The assay showed 100% agreement with conventional PCR assays when applied to clinical samples from Jiangsu province in China, confirming the coexistence of all species of PCV1-4 strains in recent years.

Epidemic situation and control measures of African Swine Fever Outbreaks in China 2018-2020

Lu Gao et al.

Summary: The study conducted a preliminary analysis of African swine fever outbreaks in China, finding significantly higher outbreak rates in small farms compared to medium and large farms. Swill feeding and mechanical dissemination were identified as major contributing factors. The response speed has been gradually increasing. Recommendations include improving biosecurity levels and enhancing supervision in breeding, transportation, and slaughter practices.

Review of African swine fever outbreaks history in South Africa: From 1926 to 2018

Ciza A. Mushagalusa et al.

Summary: The article discusses the history of African swine fever outbreaks in South Africa, analyzing data before and after the development of the OIE diseases database. It highlights the seasonality of outbreaks, with more occurring in summer, and the identification of nine p72 genotypes in South Africa. The study also emphasizes the need for spatiotemporal studies to assess the clustering of outbreaks accurately.

Emergence and prevalence of naturally occurring lower virulent African swine fever viruses in domestic pigs in China in 2020

Encheng Sun et al.

Summary: The report discusses the surveillance of ASFVs in seven provinces of China, indicating the presence of genotype II ASFVs with various mutations, deletions, and insertions. It was found that some isolates exhibited different levels of virulence and transmissibility, posing challenges for early diagnosis and control of ASFV.

Genotype I African swine fever viruses emerged in domestic pigs in China and caused chronic infection

Encheng Sun et al.

Summary: Recently, genotype I ASFVs have emerged in China, with SD/DY-I/21 showing low virulence, high transmissibility, mild infection onset, and chronic disease in pigs, along with causing necrotic skin lesions and joint swelling. The emergence of genotype I ASFVs presents more challenges for the control and prevention of African swine fever in China.
