Environmental impact and adaptation study of pig farming relocation in China

Guodi Zheng et al.

Summary: Based on a life cycle assessment (LCA) model, relocating pig farms from the Constrained Zone to the Key and Potential zones in China was found to be more environmentally friendly and beneficial for water resources and environmental quality. The majority of environmental impacts in pork production stem from crop and pig production processes, with key indicators including soybean import ratio and feed conversion ratio. Further guidance and education can be provided to farmers in the Key and Potential zones to enhance sustainability.

Environmental burdens of small-scale intensive pig production in China

Xin Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the environmental impacts of small-scale intensive pig production systems in China using life cycle assessment approach, identifying feed production as the major contributor, with maize being the principal hotspot. Suggestions for improvements include optimizing feed formulas, introducing new feed technologies, and upgrading manure management system to achieve future environmental sustainability.
