Significantly improving the performance of self-powered biosensor by effectively combining with high-energy enzyme biofuel cells, N-doped graphene, and ultrathin hollow carbon shell

Jing Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a portable, fast, and ultrasensitive self-powered biosensor based on a single-chamber glucose/air enzymatic biofuel cell (EBFC) was proposed for the detection of L-Cys with a linear range of 0.01-5 μM and a detection limit of 2.20 nM. The biosensor showed high selectivity, outstanding reproducibility, and excellent stability in detecting L-Cys in human urine samples, making it a potential prototype for implantable and point-of-care diagnostic devices.

A Bendable Biofuel Cell-Based Fully Integrated Biomedical Nanodevice for Point-of-Care Diagnosis of Scurvy

Mimi Sun et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the first example of a fully integrated biomedical nanodevice based on a bendable biofuel cell, which is simple, portable, pump-free, cost-saving, and easy to use for the point-of-care diagnosis of scurvy. The cost-effective strategy used in the design greatly reduces the cost of feedstock, making it suitable for resource-poor settings.

Highly sensitive and stable self-powered biosensing for exosomes based on dual metal-organic frameworks nanocarriers

Chengcheng Gu et al.

Summary: In this study, a BFC-based self-powered biosensor with enhanced stability and sensitivity was successfully constructed using dual metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The biosensor achieved high sensitivity and specificity in detecting exosomes, with a detection limit of 300 particles mL(-1). This approach shows great potential for expanding the applications of BFC-based self-powered biosensors.

Highly sensitive and stable fructose self-powered biosensor based on a self-charging biosupercapacitor

Paolo Bollella et al.

Summary: An alternative approach for a highly sensitive and stable self-powered biosensor to detect D-fructose was proposed. The biosensor demonstrated an instantaneous power density release of 17.6 mW cm(-2) and 3.8 mW cm(-2) in pulse mode. The self-charging biosensor achieved 10 times higher sensitivity compared to continuous operation mode, and 100 times higher than a normal enzymatic fuel cell, making it potentially useful in food or biomedical applications.
