Y. B. Yang et al.

Summary: When using a self-designed single-axle vehicle to detect bridge frequencies, it is important to consider both the rocking and vertical motions, utilize sensors for different responses, and eliminate interference caused by the vehicle's own frequencies.

Extracting multiple bridge frequencies from test vehicle - a theoretical study

Zhenhua Shi et al.

Summary: The coupled differential equation group for the vehicle bridge interaction system is reestablished under the assumption that the vehicle acceleration magnitude is much lower than the gravitational acceleration constant. Several critical parameters including bridge damping, vehicle frequency, vehicle speed, vehicle mass, and vehicle damping are studied to investigate their effects on extracting multiple bridge frequencies from the vehicle. The results show that the bridge damping plays a significant role in the vibration behavior of both the vehicle and the bridge compared to the vehicle damping.

Time-varying characteristics analysis of vehicle-bridge interaction system based on modified S-transform reassignment technique

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: The paper presents an instantaneous frequency identification technique based on modified S-transform reassignment, which improves the time-frequency concentration by adding a first-order frequency function to the Gaussian window function and applying time-frequency reassignment technique. This method efficiently extracts the time-varying characteristics of vehicle-bridge interaction for bridge health monitoring.

An original framework for triply-coupled bending-torsion dynamics of beams

Andrea Burlon et al.

Summary: In this study, a comprehensive framework is introduced to address the triply-coupled bending-torsion problem in beams with asymmetric cross section, considering warping effects and obtaining responses in frequency and time domains under arbitrary loads. The proposed approach utilizes Laplace Transform and the theory of generalized functions to derive exact solutions under proportional damping, which are easy to implement. This framework is also extended to beams with in-span transversal stiffeners, external supports, and non-proportional damping scenarios, providing a versatile tool for dynamic analysis.

Theoretical vehicle bridge interaction model for bridges with non-simply supported boundary conditions

Zhenhua Shi et al.

Summary: This paper presents mathematical models for various non-simply supported boundary conditions and analyzes the effects of different vehicle parameters on extracting multiple bridge frequencies. Several phenomena such as signal drift on acceleration responses and camel hump phenomenon on Fast Fourier analysis of acceleration signals are observed. Results show that higher vehicle frequency is preferred and lower vehicle speed parameter is recommended to reduce undesirable phenomena. Vehicle mass and damping parameter have little effect on the extraction of multiple bridge frequencies.

Using a Single-DOF Test Vehicle to Simultaneously Retrieve the First Few Frequencies and Damping Ratios of the Bridge

Y. B. Yang et al.

Summary: Bridge damping ratios were extracted using a single-degree-of-freedom test vehicle for the first time in this study, with the use of variational mode decomposition and random-decrement technique. Closed-form solutions were validated for damped bridge and contact responses. The proposed method successfully identified frequencies and damping ratios under varying road conditions and noise levels.

An indirect bridge frequency identification method using dynamic responses of high-speed railway vehicles

Jiawang Zhan et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method to identify bridge frequencies from vehicles moving at a high speed by combining the responses of multiple vehicles, and verifies the effectiveness of the method through numerical simulations. The influence of track irregularity, vehicle speed, bridge stiffness, and bridge damping on the identification results is also analyzed.
