Soluble Congeners of Prior Insoluble Shape-Persistent Imine Cages

Mattes Holsten et al.

Summary: By synthesizing soluble congeners of shape-persistent organic cage compounds using compounds containing solubilizing chains, the formation and reversibility of cage formation were studied by investigating the exchange of building blocks in solution.

Porous Organic Compounds - Small Pores on the Rise

Tom Kunde et al.

Summary: Porous organic cages are a recent addition to the field of porous materials and have emerged as a versatile functional-materials platform due to their solubility in common organic solvents. Unlike other frameworks, organic cages are assembled first from modular building blocks in solution and then packed in the solid-state in a next step. Examples of porous organic cages are highlighted with focus on how the intrinsic nanopore can be controlled and utilized, especially in terms of gas sorption properties.
