Hydrogenation of Secondary Amides using Phosphane Oxide and Frustrated Lewis Pair Catalysis

Laura Koering et al.

Summary: The metal-free catalytic hydrogenation of secondary carboxylic acid amides is achieved through two new catalytic reactions, involving the conversion of amides into imidoyl chlorides and the subsequent hydrogenation of the generated chlorides by an FLP-catalyst. Mechanistic and quantum mechanical calculations support the unique role of chloride as a Lewis base in FLP-mediated H-2-activation during the hydrogenation process.

Site-Selective Csp3-Csp/Csp3-Csp2 Cross-Coupling Reactions Using Frustrated Lewis Pairs

Ayan Dasgupta et al.

Summary: The donor-acceptor ability of frustrated Lewis pairs has been widely used in organic synthesis. Single electron transfer can generate a frustrated radical pair, leading to different reaction pathways and selectivity depending on the substrate and energy required. Investigation using EPR studies, kinetic studies, and DFT calculations has helped elucidate the mechanism of these coupling reactions and explain solvent-dependent site selectivity.

Electron deficient borane-mediated hydride abstraction in amines: stoichiometric and catalytic processes

Shyam Basak et al.

Summary: Boranes have the ability to mediate hydride abstraction from amino C-H bonds, resulting in the generation of reactive iminium hydridoborate salts that can participate in various stoichiometric and catalytic processes. These reactions include manipulation of amino scaffolds and the use of amine-based reagents for reactions such as transfer hydrogenation and alkylation.
