Multifaceted Analyses of Four Different Prototype Lightweight Photovoltaic Modules of Novel Structure

Krzysztof Mik et al.

Summary: The dynamic growth of photovoltaic capacity in Poland has led to increased investment in photovoltaic systems. Lightweight PV modules are seen as a potential solution for buildings with low roof-bearing capacity. Prototype silicon lightweight modules have shown high efficiency and power output, although they are currently less profitable than standard systems.

Enabling curvable silicon photovoltaics technology using polycarbonate-sandwiched laminate design

A. S. Budiman et al.

Summary: The study found that in a novel PV module design, the residual stresses in silicon solar cells are highly compressive, which inhibits crack growth and allows the module to curve without cracking. This research demonstrates the higher level of mechanical stress tolerance in silicon solar cells with the PC-PC design.
