Effect of Unloading Rate on the Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Characteristics of Sandstones Under Complex Triaxial Stress Conditions

Yu Zhao et al.

Summary: This study discusses and explains variations in stress-strain curves, irreversible strain, elastic modulus, and Poisson's ratio. The test results show that increasing the initial confining pressure restrains the radial deformation of sandstone samples compared to lower initial confining stress, and the sandstone samples rapidly increase in compaction degree in the failure stage, leading to the loss of the failure buffering process.
