Molecular dispersion enhances photovoltaic efficiency and thermal stability in quasi-bilayer organic solar cells

Xuning Zhang et al.

Summary: Utilizing a polymeric donor PBDBT-2F and a non-fullerene acceptor Y6, a strategy was proposed to enhance the photovoltaic performance in planar heterojunction-based organic solar cells by dilute dispersions of the donor in the acceptor-dominant phase. This led to an improved charge transport balance and accelerated photocarrier sweep-out, resulting in a power conversion efficiency of 15.4% in the PHJ-OSCs. Moreover, the PHJ solar cells with donor dispersions exhibited better thermal stability compared to bulk heterojunction devices.

Improved Blend Film Morphology and Free Carrier Generation Provide a High-Performance Ternary Polymer Solar Cell

Bing-Huang Jiang et al.

Summary: Non-fullerene organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have achieved high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). By optimizing the blend morphology of a two-donor (PM6, TPD-3F)/one-acceptor (Y6) ternary blend, improved OPV performance was achieved. Good miscibility between PM6 and TPD-3F, combined with device optimization using 1-chloronaphthalene as an additive, resulted in efficient exciton dissociation and carrier transport for higher PCE.
