Identifying the role of interface chemical bonds in activating charge transfer for enhanced photocatalytic nitrogen fixation of Ni2P-black phosphorus photocatalysts

Zhi-Kai Shen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of smartly-designed Ni2P-black phosphorus photocatalysts on NH3 production activity. The interface Ni-P bonds between Ni2P and black phosphorus acted as atomic level electron transfer channels, reducing the potential energy barrier for charge transfer, leading to enhanced NH3 production activity.

Energy Platform for Directed Charge Transfer in the Cascade Z-Scheme Heterojunction: CO2 Photoreduction without a Cocatalyst

Ji Bian et al.

Summary: A universal strategy was developed to construct a cascade Z-Scheme system using an effective energy platform as the core to direct charge transfer and separation. The experimental results and DFT calculations based on van der Waals structural models revealed that the introduced platform prolonged the lifetimes of spatially separated electrons and holes without compromising their reduction and oxidation potentials. The optimized cascade Z-Scheme showed significant improvement in photoactivity for CO2 reduction to CO under visible-light irradiation, surpassing other reported Z-Scheme systems even with noble metals as mediators.

Zhi-Wen Wang et al.

Summary: Ultra-thin TiO2 nanosheet (NST) with abundant Ti3+ sites has been developed as a photocatalyst for high yield and selectivity in the conversion of CO2 to CH4. The NST selectively activates CO2 on its surface, forming bridging Ti dot CO2-Ti coordination species to lower the activation energy barrier and determine the selectivity for CH4 production via Ti-C coordination bond.
