A composite hydrogel with co-delivery of antimicrobial peptides and platelet-rich plasma to enhance healing of infected wounds in diabetes

Shikun Wei et al.

Summary: This study developed a hydrogel system for the treatment of chronic infected wounds, which can effectively regulate inflammation and enhance collagen deposition and angiogenesis by using antimicrobial peptides and PRP. The hydrogel showed sustained-release capacity, anti-bacterial activity against pathogenic strains, and promoted fibroblast cells proliferation and migration. Additionally, the hydrogel accelerated wound healing in diabetic mouse infection, leading to improved collagen deposition, reduced bacterial load, and balanced inflammatory response.
