One-step entrapment of a PS-PEGMA amphiphilic copolymer on the outer surface of a hollow fiber membrane via TIPS process using triple-orifice spinneret

Pengfei Zhang et al.

Summary: A powerful hydrophobic membrane modification method was developed in this study, which involves surface entrapment of an amphiphilic copolymer onto a PVDF hollow fiber membrane prepared through a thermally induced phase separation method. The preparation conditions significantly affected the membrane surface hydrophilicity, with longer air-gap distance, lower polymer concentration, and higher PS-PEGMA concentration favoring better copolymer entrapment. The one-step modification method was found to be more robust and reliable compared to conventional coating processes.

Synergistic effects of COF and GO on high flux oil/water separation performance of superhydrophobic composites

Han Wang et al.

Summary: The hybrid materials of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and graphene oxide (GO) combine the advantages of both, improving the acid/base resistance of GO in water while overcoming the agglomeration tendency of COFs, making the materials more stable. The coatings fabricated using a simple method exhibit ultra-high oil/water separation efficiency and exceptional chemical stability.

Superhydrophobic home-made polyurethane sponges for versatile and cost-effective oil and water separation

Salar Jabbary Farrokhi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the separation capacities of sponges sprayed with a superhydrophobic coating for a broad range of oils and solvents. Results show that the least dense sponge has the highest absorption capacity, while the absorption capacity varies erratically with the dynamic viscosity. In addition, the coated sponges maintain their superhydrophobicity after being subjected to extreme conditions.
